Music at the Market 2008
June 08 brings Wes Mackey to the Ladner Market
"Wes Mackey is a Bluesman who has a totally unique, individual sound and identity and very few emerging artists can lay claim to those very important and refreshing traits. Wes Mackey has definitely paid-his-dues in full and he's got a special gift that he wants to share …. Wes Mackey has arrived."
Andy Grigg of Real Blues Magazine
Kenny Wayne - June 08
“There’s no boogie-woogie-blues piano man out there today who pounds the 88’s with the conviction of Kenny 'Blues Boss' Wayne.” (Jeff Johnson/Chicago Sun-Times)
Mojo Zydeco - June 22
July 13 - The Greynotes
In a continuation of classic rock and blues, a group of old guys in Nanaimo, B.C. has formed the GreyNotes featuring Johnny James vocals and Guitar, Bob Garnett on Drums, Ted Benkhe on Keyboard and Garnet Hunt on Bass.
All have played with groups across Canada, Garnet was with the Vancouver Playboys (60’s) and also currently plays with the Time Machine.
July 27 - The Time Machine
The Time Machine is a bunch of left over musicians from Newfoundland, Ontario, Manitoba and Vancouver. The group got together four years ago as a result of a Delta Guitar Club in Tsawwassen. Most everyone lives close to there still although I have recently mover to Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island. We still get together weekly for rehearsals and play charity and revival type gigs.
August 10 - Vancouver Dixieland Jazz - Dixie 9 and The Back Alley Strutters
Kal Mollison - September 7, Morning
August 24 September 7, Afternoon - John Gilliat Trio
The style is called "nouveau flamenco" and Langley acoustic guitarist John Gilliat is blazingly good at it. Light a candle, pour some camomile and don't wonder how he moves his hands so fast or you'll just stress.
